PHILOSOPHY

A number of concepts have influenced or inspired Raphael in the creation of the a & p concept:

1.
The artist Pablo Picasso believed all children were artists: that they were inherently creative. However when we become adults, most of us seem to lose this.

2.
The artist Marcel Duchamp was concerned less about art objects in the gallery, but the way we live, think and engage with all around us being the art.

3.
The Bauhaus School developed particular relationships between art and othere speheres of life.

4.
The concept of Deep Ecology

5.
The Tea Ceremony of Japan.

6.
Chemist James Lovelock’s Gaia Theory.

7.
Ideas in Quantum Physics conceiving the Universe less as a conglomarate of distinct units of matter, but more a relational field of being.

8.
Biologist Lynn Margulis’s Bionomic thinking with regard Evolution: perceiving the genesis and evolution of all beings (incuding humans) as a relatonal, interactive and symbiotic process.

9.
Bioligists/Philosophers Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela’s concept of Autopoeisis.

10.
In Ancient India making art was considered a Yoga - a means to explore being. Essentially any mindful action may be considered both an art and a means to explore being.

Some of these ideas are explored in Raphael’s film: Zero = every day?

These ideas are discussed in depth in his doctoral thesis as well as in some of his research articles.

a & p draws on these influences and other ideas, to explore, through art practice the idea of ‘relational being’.

a & p is a space to nurture childlike creativty in aduts as well as children.

It is a place to explore
inter-connections in all fields of activty to develop a greater midnfulness of the art of life and living.

a & p follows a radical model of education and art practice, where the school itself may be considered the art...

where the personal journey of ‘teacher’ and ‘student’ is thought of as ‘the school’ and the ‘art’.

a & p is a space that allows an ongoing conversation on being: personally as well as in groups, involving informal interactions and structured programs.

ATMOSPHERE

a & p is created with the atmosphere of a home, not an institution - a crucial ambiance for its playful explorations.

Here again a & p takes inspiration from the “Tea Ceremony” of Japan.

ETHOS

The basic a & p ethos comes from a saying:

Give without expecting to receive.
    Receive without expecting to GiveFAQ.htmlFAQ.htmlFAQ.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynn_Margulishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autopoiesishttp://www.raphaeladjani.com/raphaeladjani/zero_%3D_every_day.htmlshapeimage_3_link_0shapeimage_3_link_1shapeimage_3_link_2shapeimage_3_link_3shapeimage_3_link_4shapeimage_3_link_5
